Just a little info I came across not to long ago.
It was actually after WWI and before WWII, that the Brittish chose to rename them the Alsation Wolf-dog and the wolf-dog was later dropped. It took 50 years for the Brits to change the name back to German Shepherd Dog, putting Alsatian in parenthesis, and another 33 years to drop the Alsatian completely according to the oracle of all knowledge, German Shepherd - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I thought it was prior to WWII. I heard that all things German prior to WWII were hated, and sometimes German dogs were stoned in the streets in the US. The dogs only came to the US after WWI.

It makes sense that by 1927 anti-German sentiment would be at the height, rather than after the war.

A year or so ago, I saw what looked like a king shepherd in class and I asked the owner, and she said it was an Alsatian. I didn't want to argue with her, but it wasn't a GSD, no chance. I got on here and was informed that there is indeed and American Alsatian. How confusing.

Deutche schafer means Oompa-loompa in German....see, that's what I love about this forum...I learn something new everyday.
