I looked at the map. Where there are mosquitoes in Utah is where I live. =( I also live by a river where there is a lot of them. Thank you for finding that for me =)

I'm in Colorado and all the vets I've spoken with recommend heartworm prevention and annual testing. Personally I'd rather just give my dogs the heartworm prevention than take the risk.

That is great! I wish...but unfortunately, I live in the Southeast...

I would call a few vets in your area and get their opinions on if you should treat in your area. That way you can get a broader idea of what direction to go in.

Yep, mosquitoes carry it but not all mosquitoes have it and in some areas, it is very rare for mosquitoes to carry it, if at all. Here is a map to show you:
