Thank you! On the one hand, it really ticks me off that by paying the woman the money she was asking, I feel like we've encouraged her in the sense that maybe we made her believe that what she did is at all acceptable.
But on the other hand I guess it's just water under the bridge because I'm thankful that Xena is healthy and happy, and that we are able to give her a wonderful life with all the love and care she deserves. She has come a long way from what she was when we got her.
Who knows what might have happened to her had we not gotten her out of that situation! Some things are just meant to be!

KellyR Thank you for the comments! I tried to figure out how to post pics to my thread but I don't have them associated with any links. I'll try to get some up in the Pictures forum, I love pics too and I'd love to share!

Mister C Welcome.

That "look" sure can melt hearts. Thanks for giving her a good home.

Most of us are picture junkies on here so if you have any please share.

Greetings from NW Arkansas!

Xena is our pride and joy, aside from our 4 fantastic kids! My husband and I call her our "rescue", even though we bought her from a woman who listed her for sale in the paper.

When we first met Xena, she was 13 weeks old. She was skin and bones and completely terrified! She refused to even look at us and didn't care much for us to touch her. Within about a minute of just looking at how sickly she looked, I almost made up my mind that I didn't want her...then, she finally looked up at me from the bed of that pickup truck and my heart melted!
I pet her a little and from gently pinching her skin, I knew she was dehydrated. She let me look at her teeth; her gums were white and she had a cavity! I picked her up & she reached up & gently licked me on the chin. Just then, looking at the woman, I felt a knot in my stomach, wondering how on earth someone could care so little for such a precious pup. I couldn't leave her there! I motioned for my husband to pay her the money and I carried Xena into the car.
We had her examined by our vet & gave her her first puppy shot. She was filled with worms!! Ugh, the de-worming process was a nightmare! After trying two different types of medications we had to get Panacur from our vet, which did the trick, and we noticed Xena start looking a lot more lively and putting on some weight! And I was thankful
It took her a couple of weeks to really come out of her shell. Do you ever see that look in a dog's eyes that tells you that they're grateful? Maybe it's silly, but I think Xena has given me that look. She's such a happy dog...and she's a blast, we love how goofy she gets, she makes us laugh! And I think she's mastered the "butt-tuck" (anyone who has a hyper dog that runs at full speed excitedly knows what I'm talking about...you know that run where they get that "you'll never catch me" look & their tounge is all but reaching their tail, lol).
Well, needless to say, I'm happy that I didn't decide to walk away, Xena is an absolute joy! She's extremely smart and we couldn't ask for a sweeter dog! We are so happy to have her in our lives!
