|sourdough44||Wow, that's a lot to go through. I hope you get it all cleared up soon.|

Thanks for the responses. The vet did do a full blood test on him and x-ray. So when he'd attempt to go to the bathroom, upon trying to poop, it would be pure blood. We went in to panic mode of course and took him to the vet. The vet working that day (Fri) checked him and said he was okay and maybe just got in to something. We keep an extremely close eye on Diesel because he is very curious of course.
He was at the vet that Friday from 10am until 7pm when I picked him up. He loves it there, they all know him by name and he is always happy while there. I got him home that night and he immediately went to the bathroom when we got home because he wont go anywhere else and he held it all day. Again, it was pure blood coming out. I immediately called them at this point. They didnt do the blood test and xrays that Friday, they gave him metro and amoxicilian to take. They also injected him with anti-naseau medicine as well.
I brought him back the following day (Sat) and our favorite vet was working. He did a rectal exam while I was there and checked him out. He did the blood work and xrays for us too. He showed us the xrays and we went over them. Diesel was extremely gassy from looking at the xray but everything looked fine. Except his large intestines is on the wrong side. Nothing is twisted or wrong though. Just undigested food and gas.
He was fine that whole week from that Saturday until the following Friday. That Friday, again, it was pure blood. We took him back ( he is stressed being at the vet by this point from being pushed on and probed at etc.) They up'ed his dosage of amox to 1 1/2 twice a day instead of 1 twice a day. They also gave us another week of metro. No issues since that trip and that was 2 weeks ago tomorrow.
He has been off of his medication since Sunday and yesterday was the first time he has really seemed to be himself. He was energetic and happy. He was and is still limping on his front right paw.
Over a month ago the poor boy was limping pretty bad and we took him to the vet and she(the same one who didnt do the xrays or blood work) said it was just growing pains and he was back to normal within 3 days at that time.
panosteitis is definitely a good possibility!
Sorry if this is much but all details included lol

When our boy had panosteitis this is exactly how he acted...he did not really present with the classic limping. He just wanted to hide and sleep. He was about the same age as yours as I recall (this was in the 1980's). Maybe ask the vet about that?
Hope he feels better soon, and please keep us posted.

|Liesje||There may be a reason but it's something I would ask (or perhaps the OP already knows, just gave us the short story). I have nothing against using the right meds, I have a dog on antibiotics right now, but if the vet prescribed them as just a broad spectrum treatment for the most likely causes and yet the dog is still acting lethargic, I'd go back and ask to try something else or narrow down the cause/illness.|

|Liesje||I'd ask the vet to double check, maybe do bloodwork. Why were two antibiotics used to treat a virus?|

No, not normal. Usually at around this age, puppies become MORE energetic and their exercise needs increase.
I would go back to the vet and have him checked out.

|LaRen616||I would go back to the Vet and get a full blood work panel done.|

|sourdough44||Can you get him out somewhere that he can safely go off leash? If he's free while you walk away he doesn't have much choice but to follow. Most dogs just love to walk freely, smelling and investigating as they go.|

Lazy & Needy Pup
My boy just turned 9 months old today and for the last 2-3 weeks he has become extremely lazy and has been quite needy as well.
He had a few stomach issues within this time period (vet said it was a virus, had him on metro and amoxicilian for 2 weeks basically.) He has been off the meds for a full 3 days now. He just wants to sleep every second of the day. He still has an appetite, he gets excited when we come home and he is still very playful at times.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is this normal? He went from being a crazy hyper happy go lucky puppy to a complete lazy bum!
