The dog park is used resourcefully, and my dogs are not allowed to push other dogs around, wrestle for more than a few moments, blow me off for other dogs, etc. It's used for "US" time - what it should be. Not "I'm gonna sit here and read a book while you go do your thing."

I love the dog park, personally. All of my dogs have gone...
Great place to practice obedience w/ extreme distraction. Great place to educate other owners and learn, meet different breeds and see dogs interact - learning dog behavior in the process. My dogs don't play much but we utilize the space for swimming, dock diving, agility, and Frisbee or fetch.
That said, we go to a park where temperament of the dogs is tested prior to entrance, I know just about everyone there, vaccines are required to join/visit, and it's 25 acres with staff monitoring the goings on. And the pond. The dogs love the 12,000 sqft pond to swim in when it's warm!

|Blanketback||I actually do think it's important to let our dogs have social interactions with their own kind. I know lots here don't, but we can agree to disagree However, what I prefer is to let my dog play with dogs that are a good match for him in terms of play style and also size. There's no point in letting him try to play with a dog that's afraid of him, or a dog that will find him too much and put him in his place. That's the problem with dog parks, because you don't know what kind of dogs you're going to encounter. My favorite place, by the river, is a better bet because (except for the boxer, a one-time thing) since people are there with their kids, or fishing, swimming, putting their watercraft in - you won't find antisocial dogs there, because people just won't bring them, or if they do, they're leashed.|

|huntergreen||we use our local dog parks at least 4 times a week. never an issue. we know all the regulars and everyone picks up after their dog. unfortunate many of you are unable or unwilling to allow your dogs to be dogs.|

|K9POPPY||No dog parks for me- Ed Frawley (Leerburg) says it best- just an accident waiting to happen, plus too many folks are just too lazy to exercise their pet ( or for that matter, pick-up after). I don't agree with the un-supervised free-for-all attitude- Bob|
