Odin's Dad Earlier I posted that I was not impressed with Kestler Kennels operation. After more thought and consideration I am sorry that I posted that. The truth is that they are very committed to breeding high quality German Shepherds, but by no means are they wealthy enough to have very nice facilities to breed their shepherds. What they lack in fancy facilities they more than make up for in love for the breed and experience in breeding.

Every day I am more impressed with not only the physical state of my German Shepherd from them but also the wonderful temperament he displays.

I have been told by experienced schutzhund trainers that he is the best looking German Shepherd they have seen in a long time. Everyone also comments about his easy going nature and beautiful and graceful build.

After thinking about it, Kestler Kennels should be considered hobby breeders instead of back yard breeders. Their knowledge and experience in breeding their dogs is reflected in the quality of their puppies.

I can highly recommend them and again very sorry for posting that I was not impressed with their operation just because they cannot afford to have nice looking facilities for their dogs when they are perfectly taken care of with the facilities that they do have.

Rottendog Congrats Bryce on a beautiful boy!! He is a real cutie pie!! I hope he is everything you are looking for in a GSD and will make you proud his whole life. I"m on pins and needles right now myself on puppy watch waiting to hear my new baby is born! Enjoy the little guy and please post pictures often. No matter what some on here may say, I love to see pictures of the little furballs!! :-)

Odin's Dad I own a shepherd from the breeder in question. Although we were not impressed with their kennel, it is actually more of a byb operation, we can not question the quality of the shepherd we received from them. He is very confident, calm, alert and extremely intelligent. We have been through two sessions of puppy classes with a retired police K9 trainer who has been really impressed with both his drive and temperament. He has high ball drive and has started to display his protective instincts. Although well socialized he has been able to differentiate when to be protective and when not necessary. Most amazing to me is the fact that many male shepherds have what is called a "goofy" tendency we have not seen that with Odin.

Although we are very happy with the pup we received we will be purchasing our next shepherd from a reputable breeder. It will be interesting to see if there is much of a difference in the quality of dog.

gsdsar Congrats Bryce!!! Your puppy is adorable!!! I am so happy for you and your family!! Glad everyone is getting along!!!

Dig through the site, there is a lot if great information here on raising a puppy!!! And it is a requirement that pictures are posted regularly!!!LOL

Side note: I am in agreement with Selzer on this. The time to post opinions about a breeder is when asked for opinions about said breeder. To "educate" at this point was not in fact in good taste. JMHO

This is why I am starting to dislike this site so much. Lauren didn't post anything offensive, yet you sit here getting your panties in a wad because she says she wouldn't support or encourage a breeder who doesn't health test their breeding stock. There have been plenty of threads on suggesting reputable breeders to interested buyers. Stating facts that have been made obvious by the breeder's website isn't against the rules. Big whoop.
When people are asking for advice on where to buy a puppy, it is all well and good to suggest the things about the website that would make you shy away. That's not what happened here.

When people are introducing their puppy to the site, it is not the time to put down where the puppy came from. That is what happened here.

I think you should go ahead and share your definition with the rest of dogdom because as of yesterday, neither the rescues, nor the shelters, nor the sport breeders, nor the show breeders, nor the commercial breeders, nor the working breeders can come to agreement as to what a BYB is -- but not on this thread, that would be picking on the OP. Furthermore, suggesting the OPs breeder is a BYB is clearly against board rules here. We are not supposed to diss individual breeders.

There is a time and a place to make these suggestions. Doing it now, when the guy has his new puppy and is in the honeymoon stage with it, isn't it. Now you take something that should be fun, exciting, happy, and you cast doubt on his puppy and breeder. Why? There is a touch of cruelty in that. Or maybe envy. He's happy and proud of his new puppy, so you say something that makes it seem like it isn't all that good. This is why I am starting to dislike this site so much.

Needless bickering? I suppose.

This is the stuff that annoys me. I have felt the same too. It's a shame because there is so much knowledge available from many common forum goers here, but it gets drowned out in the countless arguments/sensationalist/trolls/dontknowtheirbuttfromaholeintheground's.

I wouldn't say needless, but as you've pointed out, misplaced bickering.
