I lost Elvis the first week in December, he'd been sick for awhile and then took a sudden turn for the worse, so it's just Emmy now. She was actually diagnosed with renal failure a month before I put Elvis to sleep, but is doing really well.

At the time I took this picture Emmy had been spending time on the couch, which she'd never done before since both dogs would chase the cats if they ran. Elvis moved more freely around the house than Emmy ever did, he seemed to delight in circumventing the dogs, but she'd mostly go back and forth between the cat room and the office, which is right across the hall, and she'd nap on our desks. Both cats always liked the dogs, but they were just too rough.

Neither dog would hurt the cats, but Halo has always been better with them than Keef, who has pretty high prey drive. He liked to air bite at their heads, lol. So, Emmy was curled up on the couch, and Halo decided she wanted to be up there too, so she squeezed herself between Emmy and the arm of the couch. Emmy was rather perturbed to have her space invaded by the big hairy creature.

Imagine my surprise when I walked into the room and discovered the two of them up there together, as this had NEVER happened before! So of course I quickly grabbed my camera and snapped off a few shots before anyone could move. We used to have a "no dogs on the couch" rule, but Halo fixed that. Still, she's only supposed to go up there when invited by a human, she's not just supposed to just up on her own when we're in another room.

Emmy has become much more bold in the past few months, which is great. She'll go back and forth between her room and the couch in the evening while we're watching TV, to eat, drink, and use her litterbox, and I've found her sleeping on the couch in the morning a few times, all curled up in a little couch throw nest. Sometimes Halo comes over and sniffs Emmy and gives her a little lick while she's on my lap, and Emmy will try to rub her head on Halo's face. She'd do that with Keefer too, but for the air bite at the head thing.
