If the child has a low grade fever, too, it may be a viral rash.

llombardo When I was younger we always had pets(cats and dogs) and when I was five I became allergic to something. My mom got rid of the cats and I remember crying about it. Finally she took me to get tested. I had the needle test(18 shots in the arm) and it turned out to be mold and penicillin. A friend of mine said he was always allergic to cats and he had to stay with me and I had five of them. His issue was breathing issues so we got an inhaler. After a while the signs pointed to other things like any fragrance sprays and candles. He was find with the cats. It could be something as simple as the shampoo that was previously used on the dog. Remember the Brady Bunch? Talk to the doctor and get tested if necessary if it persists.

Kaimeju When I developed pet allergies the symptoms were more like hay fever. I never had a rash. I had very distinct itchy eyes and runny nose. But allergies are really specific to the individual, so you may have to consult a specialist.

The things that made us break out in hives were usually environmental- change in laundry detergent, medication, rolled in poison sumac...

Springbrz I would consult her pediatrician. It could a pet allergy. It could also be the start of any number childhood illnesses. It could very well be a contact dermatitis from a new laundry detergent, shampoo...who knows.
Humans can develop allergies at any time in life. Some even outgrow allergies. Both of my children developed cat allergies at different ages. As an adult one of my kids has developed major pollen allergies.
Best to seek medical advise from a medical professional.

Best of luck to you....hope you little girl is feeling better soon and it's not the new pup.

I have no experience with allergies other then food allergies. Anyone have experience with pet allergies in kids? Does anyone have any insight how it usually shows up?

My daughter is 4, almost 5....she has had a full body rash for two is tiny small raised red bumps...get really red when scratched. They itch like crazy she says. This week is my son's spring break so we have been home and nothing coming in or out since he isn't going to school(he has brought home a few bugs this year). Nothing has changed other then us getting Abby girl last Saturday afternoon. The kids don't have a ton of contact with her....they pet her but don't lay on her or anything like that. JoJo my daughter's hands are bright red the rash is the worst there.

I am praying hoping it is a fluke....I have two other kids who are always rashy with something but JoJo is not like that.

I dosed her with meds so hopefully she improves tonight.
