|jnddavis01||I sure will! By the way, I'm obviously really new to this GSD Forum website...could you tell me if you are able to view the pics I've already posted of him? I thought I uploaded 5 or 6 pics of him, but maybe I did it wrong!|

|jnddavis01||So I like the idea of that DuraSoft material, but not necessarily the orange color...do you happen to know if the Tufflex collar is made of the same material?|

|Liesje||No prob. If you get a collar, be sure to post lots of pics of Buster wearing it when it arrives!|

Awesome, thanks for that link!

|jnddavis01||I use the term "rescue" very loosely...we live in a rural area, maybe 12 houses on a stretch of county road about 3 miles long. Buster lived about 1/2 mile away, but ran away from home twice, and both times ended up at our house, once for a day and once for 3 days. I was able to return him to his owner thru the magic of Facebook. We had a blizzard-like snow storm the first week of January, and so I called his owner to offer him the big cardboard box and extra blankets that we had used to make him a temporary outdoor home, and the owner said he could not take care of him (which was obvious!) and offered him to us. The guys uncle breeds shepherds, so we know for a fact that he is purebred (I saw his parents papers, but the guy did not pay to have Buster registered). He was current on all his shots, and we took him back to the same vet for a checkup and to clear up an ear infection. All this to say, I do know that he is NOT chipped right now, so that's why we are wanting to get him a secondary, permanent form of ID|

This is the one I use. Doesn't get stinky, won't stretch. They've got some other cheaper biothane collars, but I like this one b/c it's thicker but softer, more supple. The other ones I've tried feel cheaper (well they ARE cheaper).
1 in. Mendota DuraSoft Orange Hunt Dog Center-Ring Dog Collar . $13.95.
If you want an ID plate on both sides, you can order that too. I think it was a few dollars extra for a second plate on the same collar.

|Liesje||Hang on, I'll get the link to my favorite one... their leather ones aren't that good...|

|jnddavis01||Right now, Buster wears a normal leather collar with the "dangly" tag, for ID purposes, and we have been training him using Don Sullivan's PerfectDog training system, so he has a Command Collar (a version of a choke/prong collar) when we are walking or training. I am getting ready in a few minutes to order a collar from Gun Dog Supply with the built-in ID plate...would you recommend leather, nylon, or another material?|

Has Buster ever been scanned for a chip? He may already have one(many rescues routinely chip animals before adopting them out) Another thing, many times a chip can become inactive and not readable, running a magnet over the dog will reactivate it. I'd do this and then have your vet scan your dog to see if there is one already(you can contact the chip provider for updating the information on the chip)
My rescue Kacie was abandoned by her owner and after I got her from the person that found her, I took her to a microchipping clinic at Pet Supplies Plus store. They chipped her, ran the scanner over her to make sure it read, and lo and behold, she already had a chip. I was able to trace it back to the vet that inserted it. And ironically the chip we were injecting at the clinic never went in, it got caught up in her long coat, never going into her skin.
Make sure whoever is doing the chipping runs a scanner over the area to make sure it is reading at the time of injection. And when you go to the vet for the yearly HW check, have them scan to know if it has migrated and still reads.
My friend has field retrievers and they do number sequencing tattoos on the inner thigh. Because they are a heavy leather/coated eared breed, the inner thigh tats are common with some breeds.
