my border/goldenx didn't like water either...she was fine in the boat all day long, but would only wade to cool off, never swim unless she had to/she never fetched either. I think it was her thick coat that made her dislike getting soaked. It was dissappointing because we use to boat all the time and the dogs were always with us.
Though Kacie has a thick coat, and she loves swimming.
The dog I had as a teen, Sadie, would hunt for rocks constantly, her head was always underwater, and she would find the rock that was tossed(shallow), never gave up until she found 'the one'. I so miss living on the lake!

Hopefully this summer we can get the two hooligans in the pool. They've never swam before. Smokey hates water...
He lives off Dean Martin Dr. close to Silverado Ranch Bl., not far from you only a 4 hr. drive for me from SoCal so I drive in often with the wife and 2 dogs.

GSDGunner Gunner was never much for going in water. He loves snow but bodies of water, not so much.
We'd take him to the lake and he'd splash in the water on the edge but never go in.
One summer we had a bad storm knocking out power for 3 days. Of course it was the hottest 3 days EVER. So to cool him off we took him to the lake and he had no qualms about going in.
A few days later we took him again and this time I brought a video camera.

He still wasn't that good at it, but he was having fun and cooling off. He kept biting at the splashes of water. So silly!
This is his first time as a puppy.

And a few years later:

Hoby and Mr. Stick at the lake

Hoby plowed right in. 3 months old in this photo. Pulling so strong after that stick he actually lifts his body out of the water.

Blanketback All of my GSDs have loved to swim, but this pup I have now is the first one who'll jump off the dock. This is our summer exercise, as many days as we can.
