GatorDog She does not look like a purebred GSD puppy. Sorry you got scammed. She is cute though! Looks like a pit or boxer mix which could explain the brindle.

Sabine007 I'm waiting on it to come in, but I saw both her parents pedigrees. I can get copies and scan those later today. I appreciate the help and patience.

She does appear somewhat brindle, but she's not really as stripey as those examples.
I may just have to wait until she's a bit older to see what she looks like. I'm definitely going to ask the guy I got her from about getting DNA tests on the parents.
Thanks again!

my boy diesel from the pics she looks brindle
what do you see when you view the puppy?

brindle examples
https://www.google.com/search?q=brin...w=1283&bih=510

sable examples
https://www.google.com/search?q=brin...puppy&tbm=isch

btw the only way to do an accurate dna test is have both parents dna tested and i doubt your breeder is going to want to do that

can you post her pedigree?

Sabine007 Ive already considered those factors. She is from working parents and her pedigree has a history of IPO and Sch titles. As I am in school as a dog trainer I had planned to compete in local agility trials. Shows are a consideration as well, but my first hurdle was simply getting opinions from other owners. She was definitely the smallest in the litter... Her litter mates are much larger.

Considering her age, breeding is very far off on the horizon... I'm just stating my future goals.

Is this color considered brindle, or is this possibly sable?

Let me just state that I'm not ignorant of general breeding, competing and showing principles... I'm just new to owning a German Shepherd puppy. I've always owned GSDs that were a year old or older. I have trained in agility and tracking, but have not shown before.

my boy diesel sabine you should not be breeding her in the future anyway unless she meets health standards for hip and elbow dysplasia and other tests for genetic illnesses gsds can have
plus show her to make sure she is to the standard for this breed or work her to make sure she is a good and worthy dog to pass on her genes

since you know none of that right now breeding should not even be on your radar

brindle is not a standard color for a gsd and at 9 weeks she is very small for a gsd

perhaps you can list your dogs pedigree or the parents names and that will help you determine if you should even consider breeding her at some point in the distant future

Sabine007 I did see the other puppies. There was another sable looking one, two tan with black masks and then the rest all looked like typical black with a little tan German Shepherd pups.
I suppose my concern was with her short coat and her coloration. I didn't know if she is what a sable should look like. I apologize, I'm just not very experienced. I greatly appreciate the opinions. That's all I was really looking for.

I had intended to breed her in the future and didn't want to advertise the puppies as something they weren't. That was my concern with registration. As diesel said, papers are only as reliable as the person selling them, and if I got burned I don't want to do the same to others... That's all.

middleofnowhere The last I heard DNA tests are unreliable. I'd skip that and use the money for something else. If you saw both parents, she has papers, I do not understand why you are questioning her status as a GSD. I don't understand your registration concerns either.
I've had several GSD puppies. (four) None of them have had the same coats as puppies. Even the long coats looked different from one another as puppies. They were all GSDs.

my boy diesel she does not look purebred to me
akc papers are as good as the integrity of the person breeding the dogs they belong to
since females can breed with many dogs a litter can have many sires , even a purebred sire and other sires within that litter ,that may be what happened here
did you see the rest of the puppies?

Question about new pup...

There may be a better section for this, so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong area.
I just got this nine week old girl. She has AKC papers and I saw both of her parents (obviously GSDs), but I'm worried she is not 100% GSD. She was underweight and wormy when I got her and my vet seems to think it caused her fluffy overcoat to break off. Her ears are starting to stand up, and she is very sweet. I love her regardless, but didn't want to register a non-purebred as a purebred.
I plan on the vet doing a blood test to know for sure, but thought I might be able to get some feelers from experienced GSD parents. =]
