Sindyeli Thanks for this article, it's very helpful and a little disturbing, but I'll speak with my vet about all that.

Msmaria Heres some info i found on the internet. hope it helps. i think its common in older dogs to become unable to retain their poop. plus you mentioned your dog has weak rear end. http://www.wiley.com/legacy/wileychi...continence.doc

Sindyeli Neutered, and he does have a back condition, with a slipped disc from years ago (did MRI), and a pinched nerve, that have weakened his back (for instance, he can't stretch with torso down like all dogs do).

Leaving big pellets on this bed

Malik just turned 9 and it seems that more and more often, every few days, we are finding a pellet on his bed, ususally the size of a small ping-pong ball, so not that small. During a visit in November, the vet mentioned that Malik had kind of week anal muscles and asked us if we ever found poop on his bed. That happened some then, but much more now. He didn't say if we should worry about it and I forgot to ask, as there was a more pressing health issue. Is this something of concern?
As a note, he eliminates regularly 3 times a day, his poop is on the harder side but not rock hard.
