Had a cat that happened to and was due to infection.

My last GSD had one as well. It left some scar tissue but healed without any issues.
It's not uncommon and many times the ear won't stand up again but is healed and no longer painful.

Turns out he has a aural hematoma,So had it drained now trying to figure out what the best route is. ****.

So no rough play,He is acting fine,ready to go out and play in the snow now matter of fact..

is he acting normal? If so, then I would think waiting until your vet is in, is ok.
Sounds like the cartilage has broken down and his ear has flopped. Other dogs? were they rough playing?
