E.Hatch Okay thanks. I wasn't planning on making adjustments myself I was just curious if others were familiar with introducing the prong in this way and if so what the rationale is.

Thanks again for your responses

MaggieRoseLee I agree with David, don't do anything until you talk to the trainer and see if ultimately the goal is to remove prongs once your dog is used to the collar.

David Winners I would talk to her first about changing the fit of the collar. I do this sometimes to get a sensitive dog used to the prong.

Correct fitting of a prong

Recently I took our 8.5 month old to a reputable trainer for obedience training. She placed a prong on him to help with the leash pulling but left it loose and connected the leash to both the flat collar and the prong. I questioned it stating that I thought the prong was suppose to fit snugly and be up higher and she said this fitting is fine for now.

After I got home and thought about it more it doesn't make sense to me. The prong doesn't seem to be serving any purpose connected like that. Is it just to get him comfortable with it? I haven't been back for another session yet so I haven't had a chance to talk to her about it.

I should mention all the other exercises she gave me to do were positive reinforcement and NILIF.
