Kahrg4 I do pet sitting professionally and for the clients who have been burned in the past by pet sitters that left early I always offer to call or text when I arrive and when I leave to put their minds at ease. I have one client who requires a picture text of a specific clock in her house. I send her a pic of the clock/time when I arrive and another pic of the clock when I leave. This might be something you could request of the sitters going forward...?

And I wish I got paid your local rates!

kaeseybadger I'm surprised she wasn't more honest (especially about ripped clothing) but at least you're able to address it now. With the amount of money you're paying I'd expect a detailed report similar to a daycare. I'm also in Jax and attempting to find a pet sitter for the afternoons once my job relocates downtown. The search hasn't been fun! I hope it works out.

gsdsar I am glad you are having her over to go over things. Years ago I had pet sitter and had a similar situation.

We need to remember that what is common sense to us is not to everyone. If we are working hard on certain things, we need to teach and make sure that every party is in the same page and knows what we expect. Pet sitters are often the "buddy". They do necessarily know how or how intense to correct and redirect. So you need to be clear and watch them practice, so that they feel comfortable. Remember, this is not their dog, many don't feel comfortable correcting a pup that is not theirs.

DTS So apparently this has been going on for a while.
Apparently he's torn 3 of her shirts. None of this was disclosed to me. The owner was under the impression that Titan was 10 months I had to correct her and tell her he's barely 5 months.
She's also afraid if jasmine, which I get but she has need said anything before about it. Jasmine is locked in a room and doesn't get let out.
I think it was a bad communication on both parts. She made it seem like he was an angel everyday and I didn't tell her all the commands we use.
I just assumed she would tell him down or off no jump, drop it, etc but that's what I get for assuming.
Tomorrow evening we are going to meet and go over commands, feeding time and she is going to be introduced to jasmine.
She's bringing another sitter and then I'm going to call the owner with who I'm more comfortable with handling him.
She says she isn't afraid of Titan but she's afraid of jasmine.
If she would have mentioned this sooner I would have had them meet .
We shall see how this goes.

MustLoveGSDs I would find a new sitter. Sounds like she's only sorry she got caught.

JakodaCD OA I would ask around at your training/schutzhund places as well.

I to, would want some structure and doing pet sitting myself, I respect what owners want and don't want.

The boss may have never had a complaint because maybe no one is home to give a complaint...

I'd talk to her, tell her what you want, and if she's not up to the task, well maybe the service has someone else who is or again, check with your trainers

pyratemom I would have to wonder what the girl does when you aren't there. Seems like too many excuses for me but my dog is more important to me than most people I know. A 5 month old is active and bitey and needs a firm hand. NILIF is great if she works it. If the sitter doesn't follow your requests, I would get another one. Checking with your club seems like a good idea. Too bad you are so far away - I'd walk your pup for you but it would be an 8 + hour commute from here.

Blanketback I'm sure your pup is a wonderful little guy, and probably lots of people here would love to stop by to play with him everyday. And get paid?! Whoo hoo! I know I would. Oh, and the Florida weather would be a bonus

You can do much better than what you've got going right now. Just because the girl is a nice person doesn't mean she's cut out for what you need her for.

Neko It sounds like your pup is a normal 5 month old =)

Asking at the club is a great idea. Everyone at our club helps each other and recommends places or sitters they have experience with. Good luck! keep us updated.

DTS I'm in jacksonville. When I go to my puppy class Wednesday I'm gonna ask around. I go to my schutzhund training Sunday and if I can't get someone I'm gonna see if my trainer knows any members that would be willing to take him out.
She's going to call me later so we can "sort this out"
I feel bad bc it's like My dog is some monster who can't be tamed but he really is a good pup when given the right structure.
He's only almost 5 months.
