Liesje I have a 12 week old right now and he's in a 30" at night simply because there is not space in *any* part of our bedroom for a 48" crate and by the time he's that old/big he will no longer be in a crate. My adult male (his sire) uses a 42" in the van and while competing. If you can go bigger, might as well. I just don't have the extra space if the dog doesn't *need* it.

GSDAlphaMom I like the big ones as well. I don't agree with the divider or small crate when they are puppies. The 'theory' for it is they won't potty in it if there isn't room. The truth is they do not like to soil their bedding area and they will not potty unless they absolutely have to. For new puppies I put paper in the back half and bedding in the front half so if they do have to go they have an area to go in. They will go on the paper area if they need to potty.

I've had enough puppies as well as litters to know their instincts. Puppies as young as 3 weeks will go outside their whelping area to do their business if they are provided the space. When they are young they have to go often and should not be expected to go all night without a potty break.

ZoeandMoe The 42" one's I have seen were showing for up too a 90lb dog. Be safe and get the larger one. As was just stated, Make sure it has a divider to expand the size of the crate to your puppy's needs.

This! And look for a model with a divider so you can adjust as she grows.

Crate Size

I am getting ready for our puppy to come home so I have started ordering stuff and have a question on crate sizes?

We are getting a female and the mother is just under 90 but the father is 120.

Would we be safe getting the 42in crate?
