Lenny and Max

Hi,

I am Lenny from Cape Town, South Africa.

Max is my GSD that will be 3 on 31 March. He has PPD3 (290/300 - HOT), and some narcotics training for fun, and is a wonderful working dog and pet. He is a big boy at 42kg, but not excessively. He has good hips and elbows and most importantly and unbelievable, bomb-proof temperament. He works like a machine, can switch off at home and shows incredible discernment. He goes with me wherever dogs are allowed and is great with kids, and neutral to dogs. Barring his joints and temperament, this did not come for free. We work hard, he tests me, I satisfy his physical and mental needs whether its a random day of agility training or pulling me around town on my skateboard.

He is however by no means a cupcake and is very aloof with strangers and he is not naturally the most biddable dog, only once he accepts someone as part of the family (pack) will he listen, until then they will be ignored.

I feel so lucky to have this dog in my life and he has taught me so much about dogs and myself. I am so passionate about the breed as a result. I think everyone has that one dog, I think for me that will always be Max. I have trained him in a few disciplines (only qualified/trialled in the one) and made it through some pretty testy adolescent years unscathed. I have met many incredible and knowledgeable people and have learned a lot as I said. Hopefully my experience will be beneficial to some people. I know reading forums often helped me put words to things I saw and did not understand, especially regarding working dogs that I had never experienced before. I am also forever a student and will probably not say too much but read almost everything that is posted.

Cheers,
Len

And some pics of course:
