HD issues at 10 months would be unusual, even for a GSD. I agree with the above, a trip to the vet is in order. If you really suspect orthopedic issues, ask for a referral.

If you do the X-ray, the X-rays are only as good as the person who takes them. As such, I recommend an orthapedic vet or you may end up with a set of useless x-rays.

I had a GSD with moderately severe dysplasia. PM me if you want to see his hip x-rays. They were bad... I worried about it for a long time, but his hips never really became an issue in his lifetime. He had no vertical leap, that was about it...

MaggieRoseLee There are many problems our pups can have and H/D is just one of them and less likely for a young dog unless you got the xrays to show it.

Much more likely an injury (I seem to break my puppies toes) or pano (which is fairly common and not a big deal)

huntergreen this could be anything from a simple soft tissue injury to a fracture. as already stated, need to see a vet.

carmspack agree with Magwart . Don't jump to conclusions . This does sound like pano , which is an inflammation , and is self limiting - will pass with time . There are things that you can do to make the dog comfortable.

Magwart Have you taken the dog to the vet for x-rays? An acute injury or panosteitis are probably at least as likely as HD at that age.

Please get her to see a vet next week. It's been going on for "a few months," so enough is enough. She needs an x-ray--you can't diagnose this with guesses from the Internet. If it's pano or an injury, your vet will be able to come up with supportive care. If it's HD, there may be surgical options -- or adequan therapy or other care. Whatever it is, if the dog's hurting, she needs care.

hip dysplasia

Hey everybody..

My gsd has been suffering for the past few months. shes basically hopping around on 3 legs. it's weird because for a day or two she'll be able to use the leg then not be able to use it for weeks.

it tears me up to see her suffering like this. is there any help or will this be a life long struggle for her? i can only imagine her pain as she ages but shes only like 10 months right now.
