Peyton18 Next spring she will have her Sch1 title and AD I may put it off another year but the plan is for next spring 2015. Also I know its a false pregnancy it is always the same 8 weeks give or take after her heat cycle. She does get a little tiny bit of a milk bag but doesn't leak or anything. She is also extremely protective of the "puppies" that don't exist. I am just wondering if it causes any harm to her?

gagsd The hormone change post estrus is the same if the female is bred or not. She could just be feeling those hormones.
If concerned your best bet would be to discuss with a canine theriogenologist.

hunterisgreat just because she's nesting doesn't mean its a false pregnancy I don't think... my bitch had her first false pregnancy, milk & weight gain and all... didn't seem to bother her much

What made you decide to breed next spring if you're competing?

Do false pregnancy's cause health problems?

So my 2 year old female GSD has had 4 heat cycles and after each one she has a false pregnancy. She doesn't produce milk just mothers the soft toys. I have been told that too many false heats can cause problems. I do not want to spay her as she is a working and competing GSD in Schutzhund. And I was planning on breeding her next spring. However I am a little worried now and wonder if I should breed her at her next heat cycle. I have done a lot of research and haven't found anything saying a false pregnancy causes anything but stress. And being she doesn't produce milk it isn't a severe case. Any insight would be appreciated.
