Gotcha. Yea, if you're not a long time degenerate gamer like me it might not hold much for you. Having said that, I use the same HOTAS control assignments in Aces High as I do in FS4 with the notable exception of my main trigger which is "all wheel brakes" in FS4 and "fire all forward guns" in AH. Forgetting where I am has caused me some small embarrassment on the runway following a mission.

Aces High (II) is considered to be the current incarnation of about the original MMO, Air Warrior, which debuted on AOL back in the 19.2 kbps modem days. It's of course completely re-written now (a few times) but uses the same type game play concept. They keep it playable on lowish end machines.

There are not alot of options compared to other games. It's one full screen monitor only although it does have Track-IR support. The lack of multiple monitors is annoying until you consider that everyone else has to master the same view system you have, and view along with 3D situational awareness is everything. Learning curve is steep. Control/view setup pretty complicated. Flight models pretty realistic except that they eliminate pesky details like ground level wind so you can land on whatever runway is handy and get back into the air. The game is pretty much about dogfighting and other realism issues are back seat issues. There are comparisons to IL2 out there, and it's better in some ways and worse in others.

It's a pretty exclusive game. One main server for everyone. I think they only have about 6000 players from all over the world with typically hundreds on at one time US evenings. The company, HiTech Creations seems to like it that way.

If you want to try it it's a smallish download and 2 weeks free after which it's $15 a month I think.

Speaking of downloads, I am going to try out WT but I have to do the download somewhere other than home. I'm on a broadband card and it will push my cap.

You should look up FFA (former fighter ace) on War Thunder. It's a friendly, mature squad (and despite the name, they're not all from Fighter Ace).

You should give Aces High a look. You could be one of the extra-terrestrials that keep the rest of us humble. I know for a fact that many players are there because of circumstances like yours, including guys that can't pull 6 actual gees anymore due to advanced age.

MichaelE I lost my Commercial certificate and my instrument rating over three years ago after my heart attack and subsequent surgery and I can't fly anymore.

I needed an outlet really bad.

Very nice.

I play online games to keep me from launching into expensive projects like that. You combined the two pastimes and will be stuck with basket weaving (oh, wait, how much is bamboo?) when you run out of money to feed your brain.

Sp00ks Nice!! Impressive. My father was a pilot, he would have loved that.
