jsca Another pic of the baby still haven't settled on a name, but we're playing around with the idea of Mowgli (Jungle Book).

jsca I'm wondering too if maybe akita is a possibility. A friend from the dog park has an akita that looks similar to this pic, but with a darker brindle/no face blaze.

I so wish those DNA tests for dogs were accurate, I would so spring for one.

Tide vom Nobles I have only seen that coloring on pits or even boxers but with your pup I'm leaning more towards a pit. She is very pretty though!

I do agree with the white. I'm wondering if maybe the lab the guy talked about maybe looked to be purebred, but was a mix. I've seen a couple of dogs in my time that I could swear were full blooded til the owner told me.

And plott hounds, mastiffs, doxies, etc. lol. Boxers and pits are fairly common in our area, though I'm not sure if I'm sold on pit with her structure. Wondering if maybe dad was a lab/pit mix.

Thanks everyone for the input! I think it'll become more apparent through looks and personality when she gets older to tell for more certain.

Whatever she is, she's smart as can be. She was raised completely outdoors and I never realized the housebreaking benefits that could have on a young pup. So far we're at 72 hours without an accident.

stmcfred She's super cute but she doesn't look like a shepherd/lab mix to me.

martemchik Sable GSD puppies are usually light tan with a possible black stripe down their back. I've never seen one that could be mistaken for a brindle coat.

Your pup is definitely mixed with something, but I doubt it's a lab. It has to be something with brindle being very prominent to show up that prominent in the puppy. Also, there is a lot of white on that dog and neither GSD or lab generally carry that kind of white pattern.

Not that it matters but I wouldn't doubt that the mother was a pure GSD. I'd doubt that the sire was a lab. I know that genes don't disappear but it's very unlikely that an AKC registered GSD had some Dutch in her lines and it's only now coming out after mixing with a lab.
