If someone wants to do something, but can't afford treats----how about some play time and attention?
It costs nothing, but it could mean the whole world to the dogs I know of.
Dogs do not measure their world in "things".

|Gharrissc||I would do homemade treats, especially since there are so many dogs. Maybe pretty big dog biscuits?|

|llombardo||Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I'm thinking of doing some kind of donation at work for the shelter. There are 400 dogs at the shelter in question. The toys have to be somewhat sturdy because most of the dogs are pit bulls. Homemade treats would be more affordable, the toys might cause me to go broke. Then there are the cats.....|

What a super generous thing to do!
Locally, we have a program where they collect food for dogs, cats, ferrets, etc. so families who have fallen on hard times have some place to get food for their pets. I feel good about donating to this and get more enjoyment (especially around the holidays) doing that rather than running myself ragged trying to pick out the perfect gift for someone who may or may not like it anyway.
Something I started doing is donating several boxes of good quality rubber gloves to our local animal shelter. They seem absolutely tickled to get them and I know there are some nasty clean up jobs to do there. Hopefully, this way, they know they are appreciated. I have adopted some absolutely wonderful pets from there.

|Stevenzachsmom||I'm not surprised. We might bicker and argue like 2 year olds sometimes. In spite of that, this board is full of the most loving, generous and amazing people. Thank you for your kindness!|
