I should add that this shampoo improved his skin condition and his scratching decreased fairly substantially.
One other thought regarding the food- I also give Traveler frozen marrow soup bones. I think the marrow adds some fat to his diet and they aren't outrageously priced. There's two schools of thought on dogs eating these weight bearing bones but Traveler isn't a very aggressive chewer and he gets bored with it after the marrow is gone. Just make sure you give it frozen otherwise they eat it too fast and get wet poops

I feel so bad for you and Bear.
My Traveler has had flaky/dry skin and my vet recommended bathing him with Selsum Blue (people dandruff shampoo). It's about $6.00/bottle. It works! There's like 4 formulations and I get the standard one or the moisturizing one. There's one that smells like Vicks cough drops and that did not seem to work as well.
I also add Coconut oil to his kibble. I understand that it's good for them and he likes the taste.

|Blanketback||Poor Bear. My boy also has allergies, but they don't affect his skin. I wonder if the canola oil in that kibble is bothering him? IDK, that's just a guess, but some dogs do seem to have a problem with it. Good luck figuring it out. My vet wouldn't run the food test for me because she said it was a waste of money and wasn't accurate at all.|

Bear is 2 years and 4 months and we have been dealing with his allergies from day 1. My poor poor boy I would do anything to make him better. So I am looking for advise.
His mom was breed in Germany and she came over pregnant so he is a german line shepherd. I have a great vet who is holistic as well as medical. I have taken him to a dermatologist and had his blood taken to see what food he is allergic to and that was a complete waste of $250.00. Well maybe not a complete waste we found out he is allergic to Brewers Yeast, Milk and flaxseed, ground. My vet says he is allergic to chicken yet this says its negative. ??????
I feed him Natural Balance LTD Fish, Venison or Duck with Sweet Potato he only get those kind of treats. We now have to bathe him once a week with special shampoo and conditioner the shampoo is $30.00 the leave in Conditioner is $50.00 I don't see an improvement. He is also on Herbs from the vet as well as Tamril (predisone) (spl)and now an antibiotic because it has gotten so bad. His skin just flakes off and now he has all these scabs that I can feel but not see. He is always biting himself. and his haiar smells at least I can smell it , I just feel so bad for my baby I got him from a reputable breeder because my shepherd before him had severe hip dysplasia and Myloatrophy of the spine and i NEVER want to see my dog hurting like that again.
Please does anyone know of anything I can try. Besides a raw diet we do not have the money for that. Please don't bash me I am disabled and I spend as much on him that I can. I take very good care of him. I know I should not of gotten him if I could not take care of him I can and I do I just cant afford to go over board is all. I really hope you all understand how much I love my boy.
Anyway I appreciate you taking the time to read this and hopefully respond.
