|Bclark||Thanks everyone, i can assure you he is being spoiled. It was a 7 hour drive back home after we got him, he laid on my fiancÚ almost the entire way home, constantly trying to cuddle up next to her. He is already being treated better than me!|

Congrats on doing the right thing. Just treat him or her with a lot of love and affection and insure for the next few months that it is not chained or tied to anything and has plenty of food and water available all of the time. Once they settle down and form a bond you can start working on getting meals into the proper time frame and work on getting him used to being on a leash. I think it is most important for a new rescue to feel secure, safe and loved. Once they understand that your their best friend they will become yours also. Try to make every interaction with them at first as positive as you can. Lots of treats and plenty of praise and you new buddy will be with you every step of the way from now on. GSD's are wary if they have been mistreated, so be patient and keep piling on the love and affection as well as lots of treats for good behavior. You can always wean off the treats later when everything has calmed down and is stable. I have two rescues who I would not trade for all their weight in gold, they are just that important to me and they know I will love and protect them for ever, so they are very relaxed and becoming great members of our family. Good luck and thanks for taking the time to do something good for a dog. You will be rewarded handsomely in the future.

welcome and thank you for rescuing this poor boy.
I think you answered your own question, this boy is like a huge puppy, you'll probably have to treat/train him just as if he were a HUGE puppy
Love to see pics of him

New from Central FL
Hello everyone! I am joining because I see a lot of great information and people here! Another big reason I am joining is because I am in need of some help. I recently rescued a 2 and a half year old GSD, surprisingly with papers. He was on a 3 foot chain outside for who knows how long. His neck is in terrible shape from whatever they used to attach the chain. He is also mal-nourished, and most likely has an eye infection. Many other problems that are not something to mention here. Bottom line is I have a 6 year old female GSD who is very sweet but has been an only dog for a few years. We have had him 2 days now and things are much better but I am seeking advice. Also he is now a young adult and doesn't even respond to a name, he is also a sweet dog and seems eager to learn, but he has never seen a glass door, stairs, lakes/ponds, so many things. It's like he is a huge puppy! Anyways, enough of my rant, hope to get some good info and meet some good people! I'll see if I can get some pictures up later.
