Jazzy has always been very in tune with me, Delgado was a hit and miss as a pup - sometimes great or sometimes completely clueless.
I remember back in September last year Delgado was just starting to show real maturity at 8 months old but he was very demanding in his exercise needs. 3 hours at the dog park a day plus walks and obedience and he was thrilled, otherwise he could be a terror. This one day I was super sick, I worked the full day and came home and lay on the couch thinking I would stay there for 15 minutes or so then get changed and head out to the park. I ended up not being able to move, between the headache and nausea I literally couldn't even sit up. Delgado lay in front of the couch without a peep for the entire evening, when it was time for bed he went quietly upstairs and slept through the night. The next day I was feeling much better and he was back to his old hyper self but I never forgot that day

|Galathiel||I think dogs living with us have a pretty good affinity for illness and injury to their people. My pup is pretty clueless yet, but my old man (13 year old shih Tzu) is EXTREMELY attuned to me and my moods. Once when we were steam cleaning carpets I carried some water into the kitchen and slipped on the slick floor and fell. Okay, I'm an emotional person anyway so I sat there sniffling and feeling sorry for myself. Rai Li plastered himself against my side with his head pressed against me to comfort me I'm sure.|

And it was the dog (chow mix) I always assumed was less tuned into me than my other one (shep/rottie mix).|

They certainly know when we are sick, and it unsettles them deeply. My boy stayed by my side and wouldn't leave me while I was very ill over Christmas. Even the scent of Christmas dinner didn't entice him.
I think he knew I was sick before I did. That morning when I went to take him out, he sniffed me and gave me this really alarmed look. Over the next week, I was nearly comatose.
They really are incredible creatures, that's for sure.

Aww! That's so great! I recently battled a terrible kidney infection and my girl, who is usually a 24/7 zooming machine, was quiet the whole day I was in bed. Didn't even whine to go outside.
I definitely believe that they do care and actually know when something like that is going on.

Do our dogs care?
I've seen a few threads about dogs being solicitous of their owners when we are sick, I thought I'd share my recent story.
My older pup Dude, 9 months has been sleeping out of his crate for about 3 months with no problems. He settles nicely and doesn't wake me til my alarm goes off. Well until this week that is. On Thursday night/Friday morning he woke me up twice leaning over me. No whining, no licking, just staring at me. The 3rd time he was nosing my face and head and whining, that time I realized I had a killer migraine started.
I was incapacitated the rest of the day, my daughter came up to take care of me and the pups (I also have a 5 month old). Dude wouldn't leave my side and they were both soooo quiet, you wouldn't know that there were puppies in the house.
I'm almost 100% this morning but both pups are babying me like crazy! So yes, I believe that our dogs care. And yes I believe Dude knew the migraine was coming on. And yes, both will be getting extra treats today!
