|Breitbach343||Well it looks like having the crate in the room has worked for all of you, so Ill give that a try. Ill probably end up putting the crate in the other room but having a second bed in the room for bed time once he's older and house trained. Thanks everyone for all your help.|

|martemchik||We put the crate in our room for the first few days to calm our pup down a bit. I also didn't have another dog which might calm the puppy down outside the bedroom. Having another dog that is calm will definitely show the puppy that everything is alright and there is no need to freak out (in general). So its really up to you...I would try the first night in the crate outside the bedroom and if the puppy freaks out too much and is crying all night long, bring it in your room. If you see that your Great Dane's presence will calm the pup, it might be very helpful and beneficial for you.|

My puppies have always slept in my room, whether they were crated or in my bed.
I like the dogs being in my room with me. It makes them feel more comfortable and it makes me feel more comfortable.

I have had my puppy sleep beside the bed with the leash on and the other end of the leash around my wrist. That way when he would get up to go sniffing around for a potty spot I would feel it and quietly carry him outside, let him do his business then come back up and go back to sleep.|

where to sleep??
So we just moving into our house last Friday and the first night our 3 year old Great Dane was a little nervous about the move, so we put his bed in our room and let him sleep with us. (Before he would sleep in his crate in a different room) So its been a few days now and it seem to be working out for us.
So here comes the question. We are getting a GSD pup at the end of November. Anyways, when we first get him should we allow him to sleep in the room like we have done with our Dane, or should we have him sleep in his crate to start the training?
A little side note. I work days and my wife works swing, so our Dane is only in his crate for about 2-4 hours for 4 days a week and the same would be for the puppy.
So would that be sufficient amount of time for crate training for the puppy or is more need? i.e sleeping in the crate?
