|Mary Beth||I am sorry for you and your dog. I don't have any experience with discospondylitis, but it does sound from your post that your dog is responding to treatment and her xrays are good. As for the setback, it could be something else - even just soreness from playing or could be an attack of pano (Panosteitis) which I nicknamed "growing pains" and your dog is in that age range. Hope you get a good report from your vet.|

discospondylitis in 1 1/2 yr dog... ideas?
Hello everyone. I am at a loss with what to do for my poor dog Greta. Back in June Greta started to not want us to touch her side by her stomach and where hips/top of her hind legs are. We took her to the vet and he did an exam and could tell she was in pain so he did an ultrasound and saw nothing. (She has a sensitive stomach so we thought that might be it so she was put on amoxicillin in case she had an infection). Two nights later she was in severe pain, crying when she would come in from the backyard, would not jump up, etc. When she did jump once on the bed she screams in pain. We took her to the emergency vet and they gave pain meds and an x Ray. Saw something weird with her spine, sent it to our vet who sent it to a specialist who told us it looked like discospondylitis. She was on amoxicillin already so we finished that antibiotic and put her on simplicef at the same time. Did a blood and urine culture which told us nothing. Finished amoxicillin and continued simplicef and things were going great! Her pain seemed gone, she was eating normal, going back to normal activities (she was on cage rest at the beginning). Even started with walks and playing a little more with our other dog. Anyway last Saturday she has started to show pain again. Specialist just did an x Ray on Tuesday and said there were no more lesions and it looked like it was repairing so she is on simplicef until November. But now with her showing pain again something seems wrong. Plan on taking her to our normal vet tomorrow since the specialist is only in Tuesdays and Thursdays and today is Thursday night. Anyone hAve experience with this? Thank you to all who have read this far. Appreciate any experience or advice.
