Welp, Like I've said in your other threads the AKC has really been behind the curve on this issue. I may not agree with some of the laws coming down the pike but I certainly can see where the AKC has done a pretty good job of shooting itself in the foot.
Merciel I think an appropriate smilie would be the 'face palm'

|LifeofRiley||BTW: Just noticed all of the typos in my first post... sorry guys. But, in taking a closer look at them, I have no doubt that a psychologist could have fun with them... lol : )|

But, regarding the bolded part, in my experience, PR firms rarely help their clients confront reality.

But what difference does it make if I think it's ridiculous? None. So I'd be getting all worked up about something I can't materially change.
And honestly maybe it's a good thing that they're hiring a PR firm. Maybe the PR people will advise them to stop pretending like they are effectively policing puppy mills (because we all know they're not and cannot). Maybe Edelman will come up with an awesome ad campaign to communicate the differences between good breeders and unethical/ignorant/commercial ones to the public. Maybe they'll be able to get out in front of educating the consumers, without which all other efforts are doomed to failure.
Hiring a PR firm at least suggests there's some awareness that a problem exists. That's a start.

So, nobody else thinks it is even slightly ridiculous that the AKC is blaming its PR problems on organizations that promote adoption of shelter animals.
Oh yes, I recognize that they are certainly playing on some popular chords within their broader constituency with the use of "animal rights"... but really?
I'm sorry but, in my opinion, they should take a closer look inward before they start sending shots outward.
Or, maybe, we are all enjoying the same ice cream on this thread?

Well, it's good that they recognize that they have a PR problem, at least...
I don't know, I read everything on the links you provided (and thanks, btw, one thing I always really appreciate about your posts is that you make it so easy to find stuff!) and... I'm left futilely scanning the emoticon list for that :welp: hands-in-the-air smiley.
Perhaps stupidly, I keep thinking "reasonable people should not have to fight about this."
And then I come back to earth and I see this and I think, you know, I am just going to go out and buy myself an ice-cream cone, because I surely can't fix the AKC, so why spend the energy worrying about it when there's ice cream to be had.
