|1sttimeforgsd||Welcome, it sounds like you plan to include your pup in all your activities, which will make for a very happy puppy. They do love to be with their people, and a tired dog is a happy dog.|

Welcome to the forum. I like you already. I totally agree with Mary Beth that you will learn a lot reading through the threads.
My husband also wanted a gsd because of superficial reasons But unlike you, we didn't think about whether or not the breed would be a good fit. So kudos to you I think your attitude and active lifestyle will be a good fit for a gsd. Speaking just from my personal experience, Mac was easy to train in that he picked up on everything very quickly...pottie trained in a week, learned commands immediately, etc. but that same intelligence has made him very challenging for us. Thats my 2 cents.

|Mary Beth||Welcome! This is the place to come if you are thinking of getting a gsd. I suggest you read thru the threads especially the Puppy Place forum. My one piece of advice - wait until you get that fence - then get the puppy.|

Hi!! Help me decide if this beautiful breed is right for me??!
I'm new to this forum! I've never owned a German Shepherd before but my boyfriend and I are about 85% sure the puppy we will be getting this fall will be one. I've always owned dogs and am not picky on what breed so I've left this mostly up to my boyfriend who chooses based on appearance. He LOVES the long haired shepherds with red and black colors. All the research I've done points to the German Shepherd as being a great match for us (as well as fitting his superficial needs)!
We've also looked at Leonbergers but I prefer a dog that is more protective and more easily trained. I'm looking for a companion that can in essence be my best friend. Go for jogs, hikes, swim, relax with. I have two rag-doll kitties (nearly 4 years old) and what I've read so far seems to be that as long as the dog is introduced as a puppy he/she will get along great with cats!
I have a medium sized back yard and this spring we will be fencing it off for the dog, until then he'll have to do with our jogs and some sort of clothes line/yard tie of sorts for quick trips outside. Don't worry, the dog will never be tied up outside for hours at a time, we just need something for when a walk isn't in the cards!
I'd love to hear about your stories about your friend German Shepherd and whether or not you think one will make a good fit for us!
Thanks in advance
Future puppy mom!
