I learned a lot about dog food ingredients here.
Alpo Dog Food | Review and Rating

|_Zero_||How are her stools, and how many times a day does she defecate? It may seem like a funny question, but GSDs are notorious for digestion and gastrointestinal issues, so even though you're feeding her a lot she might not be getting the nutrients and calories she needs. A healthy dog will poop once or twice a day (although some healthy dogs do go three times). The poop will be firm-- the color of a tootsie roll and the texture of modeling clay. If you're finding that she's going to the bathroom many times per day, the stools are runny, fluffy, loose, look like "cow paddies," are a funny color, or a greasy in appearance, she might not be digesting her food properly, even if her bloodwork is normal.|

|LeoRose||If she's had a complete physical, and blood work (including thyroid) has come back as normal, then feeding a better quality food would be the first step. Check out dogfoodadvisor.com, and go for something rated at least three stars, and preferably four or five. While Alpo might be perfectly adequate for a lot of dogs, it's not the best food out there.|

we feed her alpo adult dog food, she weighed 61pds at the vet, I feed her 2 cups of food 4 times a day and she eats every bit like shes starving, the vet said she just has a "fast metabolism" which I think is bull, we have had her about 8 months now and she will gain weight when its cool but when its hot she gets really boney again we keep a small pool in the yard she can lay in and she loves it, im just worried something else could be wrong, and people stare at her like were starving her it makes me sad cuz I know were not.

What kind of food are you feeding her and do you know how much she weighs? Also what did the Vet say when you took her in? The Vet should be able to give you a good weight range for you particular GSD. Normal average weight for a female GSD is around 65 lbs or so but every dog is different.
I have adopted several pets from shelters and it always took some time for them to adjust to their new home, it might just take some time. (don't know how long you have had her.) Also do you have a problem with getting her to eat if so there are several things you can try. My GSD sometimes gets real finicky with his food so I have to use raw foods sometimes. Good Luck
