Trying raw again...need a little help?
I want to try raw again but I have a few concerns and questions. My pup appears to have food allergies and is also a fussy eater. In the last 4 mo. I have gone from LB puppy food to raw back to LID kibble.
What I've done so far: LB puppy food seemed ok but she was itchy a lot. Added an egg every other day and salmon oil. That got rid of the flaky skin and made her coat soft and shiny but still itchy and I want to try raw since it gets rave reviews and seemed logical. Started with chicken and moved on to pork (gave her a full body rash after just 2 meals). Stopped pork and went back to just chicken for a week then added turkey. She did ok with turkey necks but when I gave her turkey muscle meat (cubed) she vomited it up undigested hours later every time. Ground turkey was just to pricey to try so I stopped turkey. Added beef and seemed to do ok but we still had a very itchy pup. Raw was a lot of work to prepare and DH wouldn't feed her because he didn't know what and when to feed so we decided to go to a LID food. Started with Nature's Variety LID lamb. After the pleasures of raw she didn't want kibble ...go figure. I added Wellness 95% lamb topper and that inspired some appetite. After a couple weeks the itching seemed to stop...yay! So we added Wellness 95% beef topper to the mix. Seemed to be doing good, no itching.
I discovered NV LID has a min 2% calcium and am concerned about it being to much for a pup. I asked on the forum for suggestion on other foods and got good advice and did hours of research. Choices are limited for a pup with chicken not being tolerated. I tried Wolf Cub puppy bison. Seemed ok until we got to a 1/2 & 1/2 mix and eating stopped for 3 days. Went back to NV and eating was back to normal. Tried TOTW Bison and Venison. She wouldn't eat it out of my had as a treat much less a meal. So I guess she doesn't like bison . Orijen 6 fish next. Had a rash the next day...tried it for a couple more days and the rash got worse. No Orijen 6 Fish...ugh!
Oh and she's had puppy pyoderma 3 times during all this. Vet said she wouldn't commit to calling it allergies. She thinks hormones of growth. But did say her immune system isn't what it could be. Vet said she may out grow it...hmm?
Here's the questions:
I can get Blue Ridge Beef Co. raw in chubs their natural mix (beef) has everything but bone, but they have sliced beef neck rmb available.
They have beef with bone too, but I would have to add organ meat(would have to be beef for now) to that. I thought of also trying Honest Kitchen Lamb/Beef varieties. But it's only two proteins. Is that enough for balance? BRB has Venison (they were out of stock at my butcher). If it's not, what can/ should I add to the mix to make it balanced?
That was long ...thank for your patience.
I'd be grateful for the guidance of the many here that have expertise and experience feeding raw to an allergic puppy.
P.S. Need to keep it $100/mo. or less, which is why I'm not getting rabbit or goat meat.
