|nreid77||Thanks everyone, good news is all of jacks blood work is normal. Tomorrow he has surgery to remove the tumor and then they send it to pathology to see if it is benign or maligment.I'm hoping we caught it early enough if it is maligment. Still very nervous about surgery tomorrow. Scares like this make us appreciate our wonderful companion so much more.|

Melanoma is verrrrry slow to spread. The lesion must be biopsied to know for sure. If it's melanoma and caught early enough, it's 100% curable with excision of the lesion with appropriate border tissue taken. (I know; I am a melanoma survivor!).
Just because it's black, though, doesn't mean it's melanoma. You can't look at it and know for sure. Could be a lot of other things.
Let us know how it turns out. Hugs to you!

melanoma in dogs toe.
I brought my dog jack to the vet today for a black growth on his toe. He is 8 years old. The vet thinks it's melanoma. We will know on monday. I am so sad right now at the though of this. I can't imagine him in my life. He is my best friend.
Where to go from here if it is cancer? Do I do chemo? Do I amputate his toe? I don't want to put him through any of this. The thought of all of this makes me sick. Thanks.
