Im a first time dog owner and let mine do it also. I initiate it with a claw snapping motion, she does a bark and hold until I move. then she knaws on my hand, i bite her with my hand. Her tail is wagging and she doesnt make any marks on my hand. When she bites too hard or ive had enough I say be nice and the bites turn to licks.
Shes 9 months, and I never wouldve done it with her puppy teeth.

The natural reaction of yelling 'Ow' then ignoring them actually works. It's how puppies learn - bite too hard, you inflict pain.
I let Molly do it. She has long since learned that you can bite so hard during play but not enough to inflict damage.

|Blanketback||I allow a soft bite. In fact, I like it, lol. I've never had a problem with my dogs doing this to other people, because they only play like this with me - other people aren't their playmates. I guess it depends on if you let other people play with yours, then it might not be a good idea because someone else might get the wrong impression.|

If you dont stop this now you r going to have a really big Shepherd chewing on your hand. That is not cute.

Play bitting and what to do about it?
Soo my new puppy Rocco is almost 3 months old, he is a white shepherd and is very obedient and calm. He is an amazing puppy. However I am worried that me and my family may be not being as strict towards the puppy biting us softly while we play than we should. Whenever we play and he bites us we will allow it as long as it is a soft bite however if he starts biting hard we stop him right there and it seemed to be working since he knows to bite softly but I am afraid that he might bite someone playfully other than us, so this is my question please let me now what you think:should we allow playful soft bitting as long as its with us? or should we just not allow it at all?
