|Mary Beth||I agree with Wustenbergerland that something has scared your Max. What I would do, is to treat it like a fear period for when he was a pup. So I would go up to the fire hydrant and pat it, then yawn (that is a calming signal), and walk past - I would do that several times - just as part of a normal walk - I would act normal and not try to get Max near the hydrant. If he shies away - so what - I know there is nothing to be afraid of. I would keep a positive picture in my mind of Max and I walking by the fire hydrant - me stopping to touch it - Max calmly looking on. Then I would do the same with the dogs - again walking by - only I would ignore the dogs - keeping that positive picture in my mind. I would change directions suddenly and Max would have to sit at the curb -heel across the street - so that Max would focus on me - I would praise Max and give him a treat for sitting and heeling. For the night - I would start at dusk - short walk, then take him out again when it is dark - go in different directions - and stop at a different area for him to potty. If Max startles at a noise - I would just yawn and turn away from Max - again a calming signal. Also I would walk Max on his leash and have him by my side - so we are walking together. I would give him sniffing/potty breaks and then let the leash out. The goal is to build up Max's confidence. I would also play tug with Max and end by letting him win. Again to build up his confidence - he won tug, he doesn't need to be afraid of other dogs and noises|

|Wustenbergerland||Something like darkness and may be some other things near your circumstances those scared to MAX. First try to find out and contact a good breeder near your region.|

is this a stage?
My MAX is 15 months old and all of a sudden he is scared of things the fire hydrant that he was scared of when he was 5 months, he is scared of again, dogs barking at a fence when we walk by scares him, some people seem to scare him and the worst thing is the last 2 nights he will not go to the bathroom in the dark, he hears things and gets scared, its driving me crazy, will he grow out of this? what can I do?
