|Zoeys mom||Yes my lab is an EPI dog but not her. No mucous or blood in the stools just weird smelling. I swore parasites but they say no, no abnormal bacterial load either but the smell is like nothing I have encountered. I was a vet tech so I am familiar with coccidia and parvo smells it's not quit like that. Smells like sweet cleaner or something not rotten and foul. Maybe I will run another fecal in tomorrow.|

|San||Has your vet looked into EPI(Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency)?|

Thyroid normal, no diabetes, and renal/bladder/abdomen US normal other than kidney disease. After her spay she did leak urine which is controlled by her meds. This is full on peeing and pooping 20 minutes after I watch her pee and poop outside. She will grab food right off the table, counter, your hands, grab socks though drops on command like a charm. It's just since she was young she hasn't exhibited any of this behavior I would expect from a young GSD- she is full on in your face disrespectful though her OB is outstanding, lol.
This may sound weird but all week her poop smells......funny. Not feces gross at all but almost chemical sweet?? Anyone have a clue what I am talking about?? She's lost about 10-15 lbs. and other than stolen people food picks at her dog food finishing her 2 cups every other day instead of eating 3 cups a day. We just got back from an hour long jog and she is in bed with me sleeping till I turn in. We go back to the vet 9/6 so I want an arsenal of tests we haven't done but I can't think of anything I have missed

it sounds like you're doing what you can and need to do. You're basically treating her like a new puppy. I really am leaning towards believing this is mostly behavioral and less to do with her kidneys but it sounds like a pretty dramatic change in her behavior regardless of your schedule. Thyroid check? Has she been checked for tumors at all? I know those can drastically affect behavior.
and I remember you. Sorry Zoe is so baffling!

Zoe Zoe Zoe:(
Some of you may remember Zoe and I, but for those who don't here goes. We got Zoe at 10 weeks and immediately learned she was not found of strangers, people in the house, or encountering strangers outside. Many trainers and behaviorists, thunder shirts, pheromones, prozac, and health tests later I can't say we've come any further with her aggression. She has been managed without major incident by never being walked off leash and always is crated when we have company.
When she was almost 2 and spayed we learned she had juvenile kidney disease. We changed her diet and make sure she has access to water at all times except during the night. A year and a half ago I graduated with my second Masters and began working full time..... and this is why I am writing today. Zoe hasn't pottied or chewed anything since she was a wee pup. Other than her resource guarding me she is an obedient, loyal, and well mannered snuggle bug with us. She is ran with our other dog Henry every morning at 5am like always and again when hubby gets home. Though muzzled she goes everywhere with us when we are out and about, and the kids are home at 2:45 each day. In total ahe is alone and crated from 7:30 am- 2:45pm....crated now because she has turned into a monster.
After I started working I would come home to potty accidents and ransacked cabinets emptied of food. I blamed our now 11 year old lab and thought he had become incontinent. So I got him diapers and went to the vet to make sure nothing else was going on with him. He was fine and diapers always dry though my floor was not. Huh must be Zoe but why?? So I take her to the vet and yes while her kidney's had worsened it didn't explain why she was pooping as well as peeing. No UTI or parasites and so we thought maybe her bladder and sphincter had become weak and started medication.......nope didn't work. 3 meds later and 6 vet visits, multiple fecals, urine tests, and an ultrasound revealed nothing we didn't know. So we blamed in on her kidneys and she lives in diapers. I could live with this. We tore out all the carpet, installed all hard wood, and monitored potty break closely when home. She went back to being crated during the day and NEVER soils her crate. I suspected behavioral at that point maybe because I was working full time. So I upped her exercise, training, and tried to spend every moment with her thinking her feelings were hurt. Nope no change.
This has gone on now for about 1 and a half and progressing. I watch her potty outside, give her a treat, and then the minute she is inside she poops and pees all over again spilling right out of the diapers harness lovelyness. I have to crate her at night, run her in the morning, crate her while gone, and she is let out again at 2:45 when the kids return but back in from 11-5. This is too much crate time but I am at my wits end. She has lost a bit of weight and is eating much less, still full of energy, but nasty as ever the last 4 months. This started before her hard crate time by the way. She was best buds with our one cat and now snaps and growls at him when he tries to snuggle, she growled at my son when he sat on the bed though she was asleep and I think it startled her, she snapped at my daughter for petting her, she snapped at our neighbor who she loves when she walked in, and as much as i love her I am at a loss.
Yes her kidney disease is definitely starting to weigh on her....before you wouldn't even know, but this behavior started before that. Behaviorist and vet thought behavior related, but being tethered to me at all times, crated when not, and taken out every 1-2 hours has made no difference. What am I missing here?? We never yell when she has an accident but she's no dummy she senses my irritation. She's almost 4 now and really despite her aggression issues is an amazing dog. She's my best friend, my heart dog, and I am her person failing miserably and lost at this point.
If she was languishing unable to move, not wanting walks, love, and went days between meals I would put her down. But she is a happy spunky pup eager to play and explore all day if you let her. Just incontinent, eating about 2 cups every 2 days, and more easily agitated than usual. So behavior or increasing kidney disease, both?? What am I not doing to correct this behavior??
