I play tug with him, let him win most of the time to build his confidence.

|Oisin's Aoire||He is adorable with his dance Alvin just kind of pushes it on us to get us to play. We let him win usually. He does a little victory dance and comes back again|

Yup, I get that to. Or sometimes he'll just lay his head on my lap and look up at me with those big brown pleading eyes that he knows I just can't resist

|ImJaxon||100% Travelers Mom. Sounds like a breed characteristic. Jaxon does exactly the same. He also gives me the 5 pound hoof/paw when I'm laying on the couch. I think it's his way of using his legs to try to motivate me out of the couch. HAha.|

Traveler is intact and 6 years old. I've played tug-a-war since he's been 4 months old. I've done it sitting down, laying on my back- every which way - and I always eventually let go and race around happy dance saying You win! You win! Geez, he's never taken that to mean I'm subservient or that he's dominating me. That school of thought is a bunch of bull in my opinion.
When Traveler wants to initiate play, he mouths his toy then pushes it and his face into my leg or butt or whatever. If I ignore him, he drops it and give a little squeaky bark like saying Hey, look, let's play!

|Castlemaid||Is that Jackson? That is adorable! Keeta does that when she gets a toy - it's just so cute! Gryffon just pushes the toy into my hands and pulls back (like he is saying - hint-hint!).|

I've never worried about maintaining alpha position. I play tug with Gryff all the time and let him win all the time. He is intact. I do bitework with him.
If the dog is stable and has a solid temperament, there isn't much you can do to mess that up.
