Howdy from So. Oregon
New to the forum but not to GSDs or dogs. Been training dogs since 1996, "professionally" since 2002, became obsessed with sport in 2005. I discovered mondioring in 2007 and got my first dog for mondio in 2008. He is trialing now, we have competed twice and achieved 2nd place/a leg of our MR1 each trial. Preparing to trial at level 2 this year/3 next year. Unfortunately trials are few and far between in this sport and it takes a while and a lot of dedication. I am very competative and pretty much do nothing but train dogs. Always learning and evolving, I love talking dogs, training, genetics, etc.
My family had mixed working and showline GSDs in the late 70s through mid 90s(no clue on bloodlines) before switching to rotts. My first dog was a GSD/Lab mix. I have worked with a lot of GSDs/mixes through the years (client dogs, pets) usually from random BYB but some American and German showline dogs. Since becoming involved in sport I have worked/trained/met several very nice GSDs from different working bloodlines. I have always been a fan of the breed.
I am an AB person at heart and they are my primary focus in working dogs and for breeding, but I am more competative than my breed choice allows(they are inellgible to compete at the World Championships due to various breed restrictions in parts of Europe and not being an FCI recognized breed) and so will have various "herders"(GSDs, Mals, DS) in the following years with the intention of competing at the World Champs at level 3 as many years as I can afford and have a dog ready :-)
I joined the form because I am getting a pup in about a month for mondio. Technically not mine but I am co-owning with my cousin who is a first time working dog owner. I will be raising the pup and doing most of the training to minimize mistakes and help my cousin learn. I am very excited and will definitely post pics and info when he arrives.
Sorry for the long post, thanks for having me.
