doggiedad when my dog was a pup i took him out every 2 hours over night.
it's different for all pups. i put the crate in the livingroom. i didn't
want to create the pup needing to be so close to me at night.
the first 3 nights home my pup whined. after the 3rd night
all was quiet. i didn't cuddle him when he whined. they're
good at training us to cuddle them.

Good for you! Hope it went well. I just have to set my alarm once during the night for a quick potty break w/a new puppy.

1sttimeforgsd Absolutely you can keep her next to your bed at night. My boy was not even in a crate at her age just confined to the floor area on my side of the bed. He had a dog bed to sleep on and if I heard him moving around since I am a light sleeper I would immediately get up and take him outside to potty. Your baby girl is going to be so happy to get to sleep in her momma's room and be close to you.

Loneforce Right now is actually the perfect time to crate her next to your bed. She will be alot quieter and feel more secure next to you. Yes you need to take her out alot now and Yes it does get "ALOT" better

overnite barking/whining

My new gsp (Jasmine) is doing pretty well at night. She goes down to sleep from about 9 to 12 or 1 and then the barking/whining begins. So I get up and hold her, calm her down and when she is falling back to sleep she goes back to bed. That keeps her quiet until about 5:30-6 am. I think it will get better when she is a little older and we can actually crate her all night. Right now she is in the kitchen blocked off with baby gates (she's only 7 weeks, so there are puppy pads down for her and I was told not to crate her until she is a little older and can hold her bladder??? Is this right? She has access to her crate and goes in to it to sleep sometimes, but mostly she likes the baby blanket on the floor to sleep with for long periods. I would love to crate her and have her next to my bed, is it too early for that?
