Disc Dogs

I hope I am in the right section. I recently attended Freedom Weekend Aloft in Greenville, SC. The Greater Atlanta Disc Dog Championships were held there and for two days, we literally watched every dog in competion from Junior to Super Pro.

There was a Dutch Shepherd, first I have ever seen, who was one of my favorites. My son wants to work with our Boston Terrier who is quite the flyer. He jumps up into our arms already, jumps into the back of the truck, over the tailgate, without running. He doesn't get to ride back there, but he just found one day that he could jump in there and so he does. He has about a six ft. vertical jump and only weighs 17 lbs. He is almost 2.

I just wonder if there is anyone out there who does disc dog training??

I have a 9 month old GSD who is catching a disc now. We are not doing any tricks, and I am trying to keep him from jumping. I got him interested by following the video's on youtube and just kept working. It takes them a while to get the coordination to actually catch them in the air with a real throw. They can get short ones pretty quick though, short being less than 5-10 feet.

I should also mention that it is worth it to invest in a stronger disc, my shepherd can destroy a disc's flight ability in two sessions. I haven't personally gotten a strong disc yet because I ordered a 20 pack of practice discs from Herodisc. I didn't realize how quick he would go through them. I am going to try a hyperflight Jawz next and see if it will last longer. They run about $16.99 a piece so I hope it works!

I, too, am interested in a good disc for our 3 month old GSD pup. She loves, loves, loves, to chase after anything thrown. I'm an ultimate frisbee player so I figure the obvious solution is to throw frisbees with her.

I'm familiar and proficient with the 175 g ultimate discs. I bought a Booda dog disc the other day with a hole in the middle. I am unsatisfied with the way it flies (Abby could care less, she's happy enough to chase it down).

I need a disc that has very similar flight dynamics as an ultimate disc. I'm less concerned with it going long distances (though if it does, that would be great) and more with keeping it from breaking hard left/right early on its flight.

Any suggestions? Any ultimate players/dog owners out there?

Stosh has been a frisbee fanatic since he was about 5 mos old- now at 12 mos, he's really really good at catching in the air. I try to keep him from jumping but sometimes he sneaks one in. I go through frisbees like mad-- he actually prefers the $.99 Petsmart frisbees because they're so light but you can imagine how long they last. I've tried Kong and other kinds but he doesn't like the weight or feel. I'd be interested in suggestions too
