Default Dock Diving...We're going to try it

My dad and I were talking about dock diving this morning. I'm not too sure how we got onto that topic but we did.

The -some-what-local- Ducks Unlimited Show comes here in August. I am really thinkin gabout taking Tash and seeing what she can do!

So many people take a second look at her down at the dog run. I swear this girl is half lab. She could live in the water, she scuba dives -much to moms dislike- and would even go swimming with ice chunks and 0 degree weather.

She'll do anything for me. I'll just have to add a piece of rope to her cuz and holy buckets she'll probably fly like nuts to get it. And better yet there's water too lol

I think she'd have a blast. I only wish we had a dock that we could practice with here.

Take pics cause it sounds like lots of fun to watch! August is a long time away... you should be able to find some nice docks and can practice all summer.

Check in your area via dockdogs.com and ultimateairdogs.net to see if there are any clubs in your area or people that get together to practice....if she loves the water and her toy she is a natural!!!

The BIG difference at the competitions is the dock is in the middle of air and the water is totally clear so even the most seasoned lake/dock jumping dogs need a little time to adjust...what we highly recommend is take them to the ramp first, let them see it IS water in the pool, toss the toy a time or two from the ramp, let them jump in, swim, get it, get out of the pool, THEN take them on the dock and just let them jump in from up close and then add distance and speed...

We have been to MANY events and these suggestions really seem to hold true...Navarre has his National dock dog Junior Jumper title and would have his Senior for sure but just running and diving into the water to get his bumper is so rewarding we still need to work on him trying to CATCH the bumper for the extra height and that meaning extra distance but you know what..he LOVES to do it and that is what really matters...

You can see some photos of Navarre dock diving at http://www.zutreuenhanden.com, Previous littters, B litter photos and there is Navarre doing all Navarre does!!

please PM if you would like more info!

Hello Natasha, The Dock dogs events are very cool. I've had a booth at 2 events in the past year, and we had the time of our lives. There were a couple of German Shepherds in the 1st event, and they did ok.

Happy Boating

We went to our first practice this weekend and that evening I entered us in an upcoming event. I decided since the dogs dove right in so would I.
We had a lot of fun at practice. My GSDs flew right in without having done it before. We won't set any world records but were not terrible at the leap either.

Those 26' jumping Labs, wow.

I hope to find some local docks as we drove 123 miles to get to that practice.

Enno enjoyed his first attempt at Dock Diving. He was the Novice leader going into the finals but got a little balky about the big blue pool so took 4th in the Finals. What a lot of fun!! We entered three waves this past weekend. The pool was something my country dogs hadn't encountered and it sure doesn't look like the river or the lake, but we managed a good outing and had a lot of laughs.

Samba is 8 years old and this was her first time in a pool. She loved the whole thing and we've entered another event in August. We definitely recommend Dock Diving for good dog and family fun!
