I have been running with my dogs ever since they had their third set of shots at about 12 weeks (dont exactly remember) and they have been my running buddies ever since. We usually do about 3.5-5 miles per run. The most I've ran with them is 8 miles and they handled it pretty well, they were just exhausted the rest of the day. I want to get into half-marathon training, and eventually into marathon training so I dont know if that will be too much for the dogs (they're 2 and a half and a year and a half) since I always take them with me on my runs.

Your dogs should be able to handle the distance, no problem.
Tara has trained for 4 half marathons with me. I make sure to do a warm up, cool down and stretching with her as well. She usually refuses water on long runs, but I usually offer it every time I take a drink. I don't run her more than ~3 miles if it's over 80 degrees.
