Default Dock diving practice!

So here it is- our dock diving practice today. You know- I had to be sure that my big ASL girl steps it up to Falon and Lies's WL dogs tomorrow!

No actually, I just had to know if she was willing and able to jump prior to going to the show tomorrow. You'll notice that she has good speed and distance in her jumping. We saw no indication at all that she was having pain in her leg. I'm still not going to run her (unfortunately!) in lure coursing, but I'm pretty comfortable letting her dock dive tomorrow.

Our current struggle: Injured again!?

That is absolutely fantastic! All GSDs should get to do that - perfect exercise!

Looking good! Will you be at the same event as Falon and Lies?

We're doing a Splash Dogs event with Halo tomorrow so we'll be dock diving too! My husband jumps her and doesn't do any kind of training or practice, so I don't know if he can get her to improve on her previous jumps, but we'll see.

Yep- same event! It's the UKC 2012 Premier: United Kennel Club: 2012 UKC Premier

Good luck to Halo! I agree- since Pimg hasn't had a real opportunity to "practice" it's hard telling if her jump lengths (and height) would ever improve. The pool in this video is at a new facility that just opened up and they are doing lessons. I might enroll in them. The trainer/owner actually had quite a few very helpful suggestions. I think I wouldn't mind trainer with her.

Thanks! I am continually floored at how her obedience is completely lost on the dock. Pimg has a very good agility start line stay, but up on that dock- it's all I can do to keep her at the back. I figured that maybe doing some tricks would help reinforce that the dock is also a place of focus. Not sure that it worked- but it did make for a fun time! And yes, of course I will take video!

Here's the video from today:

She did well! In her first splash, she jumped 10'8". In her second splash, she jumped 11'3" which is one inch shy of her personal best. She seemed to have a great time, and I certainly did as well. As I said at the end of the video- thanks goes to Lies for the pics and Falon for the video.

At the end of the day, I decided maybe was feeling well enough to do some lure coursing after all. We went over there I and I was surprised that she seemed to fixate on the moving lure. She even started barking... That's very uncharacteristic of her. Unfortunately, the machine had apparently broke down. So we didn't get to run. I'm definitely adding that to my list of new sports to try though!

Overall, it was a great day! If I'm counting right, Pimg is only two 10' jumps away from her UJJ title (or whatever the Ultimate Air Dog equivalent is).
