We finally entered a Dock Diving event. I really did enter it with the intent of just having some fun and burning off energy. Of course my competitive side came out and I think it sucks the way they score the results. Even though it was Pimg's first time, since she jumped over the limit (I think the limit is 9'9") for Novice, she was scored in the next level- Junior. And since she was just over the limit- she scored pretty much last in Juniors. What an absolutely lame way to do scoring...
Anyway- you know Pimg doesn't care about the ribbons. I mean, I let her look at them and smell them- but she didn't want anything to do with them... ![]() Anyway her best jump of the three days was 11'4" which I think is pretty impressive for her first time! Definitely proud of her! Of course the put her in a placement of 9th (out of 10) in Juniors. Best jump on 10/14: 10'4" Best jump on 10/15: 9'2" Best jump on 10/16: 10'8" Best jump in Finals on 10/16: 11'4"

Yeah congrats!!! Looks like so much fun! Darn dog jumping above her level, LOL. You have very atheletic girl there. I laughed at the "she's about to get freaked" part where she missed the ramp - but she figured it out and didn't hesitate to go in again afterwards, so that is very good!

Loved the video and explanations! I've always wanted to try just for fun and now know I will if the opportunity rises!

Since Pimg had practiced at the boat launch, I figured she wouldn't have an issue. However, once we were up there for our first practice run- she hit the brakes hard at the end and refused to jump. I tried a lot of things to get her over the initial hesitation, but nothing was working. So I pushed her in. That's against the rules- but is was basically just a nudge to get her over the initial fear. From then on there was no problem... I am pretty sure I read somewhere on their site that pushing isn't allowed, but their rules are not posted at the moment: Splash Dogs - Events: Rules & Regulations There was a guy standing there watching and helping me. I said, "man- I just want to nudge her in." He said- "oh, I don't work here. Go for it..." lol.
I think it would be really difficult if you actually had to find a way to coax them into it. [EDIT]- I want to add that I'da done the same thing if we were at the boat dock and she refused to jump (which she never has). But yeah- I was ok with the nudge because that is something I'd do anyway... Lest anyone have any concern.

She did great!!! Halo had the same experience in her first dock diving event - 1st wave was the Splash division, 2nd wave bumped her up to Junior.

I have found that dogs who jump in natural waters easily sometimes atill have some trepidation with the first jump into the blue pool. It must look like sky or something! But, after introduction, it is okay.
Glad you guys had a good time. We love the dock jump! |

Willy I've done the same with my dogs, lol. When they get on the high platform with the clear pool I have to give them a little shove. Honestly I think the longer I wait and encourage them the more they WANT to but the more they won't. I just give a little extra "encouragement" with my shoulder the first time they lean over and then they go right in!
