Halo has been doing well in flyball class, so I decided to video some of our practice today. She's jumping on the board with confidence and will grab the ball off the velcro, bring it back, and drop it at my feet:

I just watched the video (for the first time- been a BUSY weekend!) and think it looks great! Then again, I know very little about flyball. I can see you've built really good value in the box and that's super cool. I also didn't realize Halo was female.

It's okay, she gets mistaken for a boy all the time, lol! For class I dress her in a pink and black flyball harness and she has a custom matching pink and black tug with 3 tennis balls on in, but she's STILL sometimes called "he"!

I just saw this posted now. Very nice! She looks like she could do this all day! Do you train them to hit the board with all four feet?

Lucia, we start by teaching the jump over and back with just the gutters (VERY low tech!) using a target stick. Then we add the board, but flat on the ground, and gradually raise it to steeper angles. At first she would jump on the board but step off the right side, so I had to put something there to block her and prevent that.
The very first step is to determine if the dog is a natural right or left turner, and then we stand on that side - Halo turns right, so I was standing on the right side of the jump. As I raised the angle of the board, I also raised the gutters, which has helped keep her high on the board, with all four feet in the black. Now I don't need to be right next to the gutters, I can be further back and send her to the board. We're building muscle memory and working on tightening the radius of the turn at this point. This is just one element of flyball training, but it's considered the most important by many people because a good swimmers turn is not only faster, it's easier on the dog's body as well. And if they don't learn it properly it's much harder to go back and fix later, so we go very slowly.

Looks good. Sorry the new firewall on our wireless at work blocks most video. As a handler I am stepping back from flyball right now and concentrating on schutzhund. Errow will continue to do flyball, with Kevin as a handler. Errow's box turn isn't very good it's something we are always working on in practice. He is just a body slam kinda dog, he just wants the ball no matter what and makes dumb sacrifices to his body.

Ah! she looks like she's having fun. I'm a bit jealous Alice can't do turns too well---on grass or hard flooring. She falls down on gentle turns. Darned ataxia. We need water sports....
![]() Sad thing is she is ball crazy;will do anything for the ball. You need to post a pic with her pink harness.

I had a tug like that (not pink), but they just don't seem to last more than a weekend. Switched to a Bende jute one, and have been using it about a year now. I think for Errow's turn to get any better he needs to go back to the ramp for a few months.
