There is a "Disc Dog" club in my city, and I was wondering if Competitive Disc Dogs can earn titles, the same as a Competitive Obedience dog would (CD, CDX, UD), or is it just for fun? They have titles like BDD, for example, but are these recognized by the CKC/AKC and added to the dog's name like obedience titles?
Either way, I was considering checking it out with Sasha because she has a CRAZY drive for her Frisbee. And it would be fun! |

I am so jealous you have disc dog club near you! You can earn titles and there are different levels to compete (nationals, world) the titles are not recognized by the AKC because AKC does not sponsor the events. Doesn't mean the titles aren't valid though.
**ETA** Go on youtube and check out "big air bella" the belgian malinois Last edited by sagelfn; 05-20-2011 at 09:48 PM. |

AKC would not recognize them, but who cares? They don't recognize the Schutzhund titles, or agility titles from other groups, but people still get them anyway. Just watch your dog- GSD's tend to be heavy bodied, and it can be hard on their hips on landing. Be careful.

Bella can jump like that because she is a Malinois.
Didn't you know they can all jump like that? Lol, jk. Or maybe it it because "Big Air Bella can fly" (line from her theme song that she performs to a lot). Heh. Annnyway... there are far fewer GSDs in the sport than other breeds, but they are out there. Besides my own boys, we have four others that compete with our club (MADDogs). Three are owned by a family in MD, one is from CT. There is also a very nice female GSD who competes with the Disc Dogs of MI club (which we also compete with). While I have yet to see one do vaults (such as those seen in this vid of Bella and often done by smaller, less heavy dogs), many can do overs and two of my own boys (91 lbs each) can do foot stalls and are learning to do a back stall. Given that they weigh almost as much as me, there is no way we will ever vault... because, well, they would flatten me. As for titles, Skyhoundz JUST (as in, this past year) began offering titles for disc dog. They are offered for D&A, Freestyle, Bullseye, Spot Landing, and I think also for Time Trial and Speed Disc. |
