Has anyone experience with forming an AKC club? I have a ton of questions and don't know where to start.
We have a local all-breed AKC club that focuses mainly on conformation. My training group is unofficial. We do schutzhund, tracking, rally, obedience and conformation showing. However, we have Rotts, Malinois' and GSDs, and possibly a Bouvier. We would like to form a club that will allow any of those breeds, that can hold tracking events as well as (possibly) AKC-WDS events. I do know that WDS is limited to the American Bouvier des Flandres Club, the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, and the American Rottweiler Club. So, should I go to AKC to get info? Or GSDCA? or GSDCA-WDA? ' Is GSDCA even going to participate in WDS? Are you as confused as I?

GSDCA sanctions WDS trials, up to 5 a year I think. WDA can do all you listed except rally. That's strictly an AKC event.
We have a WDA club, our club has shepherds, mals, mixed breeds, rotties, and presa's

So do you know if we were to be an AKC club, would we go through AKC, or through GSDCA?
I am a little fed up with all of the animosity between WDA and UScA (it did not take me long) and so thought I might look into the AKC-WDS avenue. But I also like Rally and other other AKC events are easy to come by. I am not a "serious" schutzhund person. We piddle I enjoy the other venues, and I have recently found tracking, and am having a great time.

You can do an all breed club thru akc http://www.akc.org/pdfs/rulebooks/RCFORM.pdf
BUT you wouldn't be able to hold WDS trials, as only the parent breed club can hold those, but you could do the other stuff you are wanting to do.

Have you thought about an all breed AKC training club? You cuold do all things except SchH. If you do GSDCA-WDA you are limited to GSD's as members but can allow all breeds to train with you.

Have you thought about setting up dual clubs? A non-AKC training club for all the functions you wish to sponsor and train in. And an AKC sanctioned club that gives shows and trials for those areas your members want to earn AKC titles in.
I'm not sure if this is true today, but years ago Canine Training Association in Maryland was a non-AKC training club, while Hyattsville Dog Training Club was its AKC show giving arm. For example, CTA held fun matches where mild corrections were allowed, they offered more classes at their matches, people could show their dogs in more than one class, etc. and Hyattsville gave AKC sanctioned matches and trials following AKC rules and regulations.

AKC has gotten territorial of late about clubs doing any non-AKC events, so it would be best to have one AKC club and one non-AKC club. Our club just finished getting licensed for tracking and obedience through AKC. They have detailed instructions that take you step by step. There are hoops but we made it through.

Could you give some examples of the "hoops?" For example, if we did an AKC club for Herding Group dogs, could other dogs be members (Rotties) and is there a requirement on # of members?

Have you thought about doing an UKC club? That way you can do the conformation and then add in SDA events.
