Default Lex

Lex a German Shepherd is a war dog that was in Iraq and whose handler got killed and whose family has since adopted him. This story was widely reported in the media.

On February the 16th 2008 Lex will recieve the purple heart at Elgin AFB in Fa.

Lex is the first war dog to be granted an early retirement by the military and to be adopted by someone other than his handler.

Three working dogs and four handlers have been killed in action in the current combat zones

The military currently has 1,700 dogs that work alonside American troops.

That part is not true. Rex, a German Shepherd assigned to Air Force T/SGT Jamie Dana, was the first dog to be granted early retirement so that he could be adopted. (He was adopted by his handler, though, not someone other than his handler. In that, Lex is unique.)
