Default Request for Support / Donations

This is not a request for MONEY. Just to clarify.

My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan and their contingent of "lucky dogs" (explosives/IED dogs) have just arrived at his base. He asked me to see if anyone would be interested in sending some care packages to the lucky dogs and their handlers?

They are specifically looking for the following, but any items that are sent for the dogs (and the handlers) will be more than appreciated. They are on a base that only has the very basics at the PX.

- Furminators / undercoat rakes / other grooming equipment
- Toys! (Kongs, tugs, etc.)
- Water bowls (stainless & collapsible)

He asked me to make sure to point out that any kind of dog treats or other dog food items should NOT be sent, but snacks for the handlers would be most appreciated.

If anyone wants to send anything, please PM me for the address.

You know what.. i will be placing an order next month for some new things for Cullen, so if that won't be too late, I will come back and get with you about sending some things. I save a ton by ordering my products, and my Schutzhund Club and I are all going to get together mid/late May and play a bulk order, so we will already be saving a ton, and will order a few other things for your husband. Lemme know what they CAN have sent as human snacks.. I Used to send Jerky and such but I kno0w customs has tightened up since the good ol days lol

It definitely won't be too late - they've just gotten to Afghanistan a couple of weeks ago and are expected to stay for about a year, so anything that is sent between now and then would definitely not be "too late" and would go to good use!

As far as human snacks go, it's generally recommended that you send things that travel well. Packages do usually get there within about 10 days to 2 weeks - that has been the average of packages I've sent to my husband - but sometimes they take longer.

They specifically ask that you do not send any home-baked goods - one, because of the danger of them going bad in transit, and two, because they are worried about the safety of the soldiers, especially when things are sent by people they don't personally know.

And because Afghanistan is a Muslim country, they ask that you do not send any pork products. Beef jerky is fine as long as the packaging is labeled "100% USDA beef". Slim Jims ... not so much. (That said, I've sent the hubby Beenie Weenies and similar treats that DO have pork in them, and haven't had any boxes opened or items pulled yet. Not that I'm suggesting you do that ...)
