We got five of Gretta's teeth too. We have them sitting on top of tv right now. We haven't scheduled Gretta to get spayed yet. Good luck with Jake. I've had many male dogs go under the knife and after a day or so it's almost like nothing ever happened. Watch the licking though. They can get the area irritated.
How's everything going with Jake? Gretta's growing bigger and bigger. She's now lost all her baby teeth and has a mouth full of beautiful white BIG teeth! She's doing great with the kids, other dogs and cats.
Yeah, jumping up has become a problem with gretta too. Any she can and does knock the kids over. We're working on it and she is improving. Also she loves to mouth everything especially my hands and arms! We're working on that too. She doesn't try to bite and is pretty gentle, but sometimes she leaves scratch marks. And by the way, has Jake lost any teeth yet? Gretta lost three of her baby teeth last Saturday when she was playing with another dog. My kids wanted to know if the tooth fairy would leave her dog bones instead of money!
Thanks! We've grown so attached to Jake and love everything about him! My husband is a little more old school, so we aren't doing training classes with Jake. We've been doing our own training sessions at home. He does well with sit, down, leave it and stay if you have a treat. If something distracts him, the stay needs a little more work.
We take Jake for lots of walks so he has been well socialized with lots of people and other dogs, so he does really well. I don't think he realizes how big he is getting, so we have to work on stopping him from jumping up.
How's your Jake doing? Gretta went to second clicker training class today and did GREAT! She's going to her mat on command about 80% of time and we're working on touch on command. Yes, she talks back too. She was the only shephard and the loudest one there. We're gonna have to work on barking on command. Shephard's are a great breed. My last one Sherna died about 4 years ago at the age of 12. We used to go backpacking together. She had her own pack and all. We're hoping that Gretta turns out as well. Is Jake around kids much? If introduced early, they are usually great with kids older than toddlers. (They may knock littler kids over)
Jake had a slow start with some chronic stomach problems and he didn't actually gain any weight for a month. So he is 37 lbs as of today. He's doing really well now and gained 5 pounds this week and is growing like crazy. So far Jake isn't fond of water. With the warm weather here we got him a kiddy pool but he's not ready to go in it yet. We'll have to work on that. As for socialization Jake is doing pretty well. He plays well with other dogs at the leash free park. We didn't do basic obedience with Jake. We've trained a few other dogs and he's doing well so far. Sit stay is taking a little bit of time, but we're making progress. And we know all about that teenage attitude. Does Gretta talk back to you? Jake is very vocal. Not necessarily barking, but makes funny sounds like he is talking to us. Jake is my first Shepherd and I'm completely in love with the breed now. I'll post some new pics of Jake tomorrow. I look forward to seeing pics of Gretta.
