I will check around and see if I can't locate a good rescue for you. Both of my dogs are from rescue: the female is from a regular shelter and she's likely a mix. She's a wonderful dog in every way, but did tear her CCL and that's potentially related to the fact that the shelter spayed her at 10 weeks before I adopted her.
The male is kind of a wacko with weak nerves but overall a sweet dog, and I knew what I was getting into before I got him. A behavioral trainer friend of mine pulled him from a shelter and specifically asked if I'd take him because she knew he'd do great in our home.
A good rescue will evaluate the dog and be 100% honest at what you're getting. Shelters... they generally don't do as good of a job because they are overworked, understaffed, and underfunded. It's a bit more of a crap shoot!
